Apellido portugués, que tuvo su casa solar en la villa de Vilardosos, de la que procedió Isabel de M., natural de Vilardosos, que celebró su enlace con Basco Colmenero de Lomba, natural de la casa de Gargalo, también en Portugal, y tuvieron a Francisco de M. Colmenero, que antepuso el apellido materno al paterno, natural de Pazos, que casó con doña María Salgado y Rodríguez de Villamartín, llamada también doña María de Andrade, natural de Monterroso (hija de Gregorio Salgado Godín, descendiente de la Casa de Monterroso, y de doña Aldonza Rodríguez de Villamartín). De esa unión nació el General Juan de M. Colmenero y Salgado, natural de Pazos, en Galicia, y Caballero de la Orden de Calatrava desde 1612. En otra villa portuguésa llamada Cordesais, nació Simón Pérez de Marays, esposo de doña Margarita González de Sa, de igual naturaleza, y ambos padres de Antonio Pérez de M: y González de Sa, natural de Cordesais, que tuvo por esposa a doña ESteanía de Mesa y Mesa, de la misma naturaleza (hija de Miguel López de Mesa, natural de Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid y de doña Leonor de Mesa, del mismo lugar). Procrearon a Pedro Pérez de M. y Mesa, natural de Madrid y Caballero de la Orden de Santiago, en la que ingresó el 22 de Mayo de 1642.
