Antichissime e nobilissime sono le origini di questa famiglia che per tradizione ritiene suo capostipite Marco Valerio Corvino tributo romano. I suoi discendenti fissarono loro dimora in quel di Forlì dove nel 1000 circa troviamo un Appiolano conte di Appiola oggi Predappio. La contea di Appiola fu sempre di tale casa C., e come conti di tale terra essi sono ricordati dagli antichi scrittori e in lapidi sepolcrali in varie chiese di Venezia; per essa presero il nome di Appiolano. Fulgerio, suo figlio, fu miles. Da lui discende un Benciverso nel 1095 prese parte alla Crociata e vi morì gloriosamente. In Forlì fu tra le più nobili famiglie, tanto che impadronitisi gli Ordelaffi della città, per primo espulsero tutti i guelfi ad essi contrari e tra questi fu Raniero discendente dal conte Giovanni del Conte e Miles Fulgerio del conte Appiolano di Appiola, con i suoi figli che andarono a
