Very ancient and illustrious Ligurian family, of whose origins there is no certain information. The names of the Morchio are remembered in texts, notarial deeds and contracts for the purchase of land and houses since very ancient times. They came from Varazze and transplanted to Genoa in about 1350. A Tommaso, quondam Nicolò, quondam Giovanni, was elderly in the years 1360-69-70-78-84, war officer, in 1367; councilor of the Republic, 1368; admiral of 10 galleys, 1371, and ambassador to the king of Sicily, in 1373. Tommaso, quondam Tommaso, aged 1400. Oberto in 1432. Pietro, captain of the people, 1478, was one of the 12 reformers of the Republic, 1489. Tommaso, quondam Oberto, an excellent physician, published the works of Arnaldo da Villanova, with a dedication to Count Gian-Luigi Fieschi the elder, 1505.
