Cette famille est bien véritablement originaire de Bretagne où elle était établie depuis plusieurs siècles. On la retrouve à différentes époques, en divers localités et il y a eu nombreux personnages illustres de ce nom. On signale les personnages dignes de mémoire: Auffroy, fils Aanan, reçut du duc Alain III la seigneurie de Mordelles en 1032 et prit le nom de sa terre; Pierre, seigneur de Châteaugoëllo, sénéchal de Penthièvre, de 1270 à 1304: Eon, fils Guillaume, vivant en 1400, épouse Catherine Minier, dont Alain, marié à Jeanne Botherel. La branche de Châteaugoëllo fondue dans la Lande-Calan; la branche de Kerdu fondue en 1616 dans Boisgelin. Le seigneur des Perrières, débouté à la réformation de 1669, ressort de Lannion. On remarque (dès le XIIIème siècle) des alliances importantes avec des familles nobles en Bretagne et autres régions françaises.
