E' questa una fra le più illustri famiglie d'Europa che lasciò tracce luminose nella storia senese, fiorentina e romana per le gesta dei suoi uomini, preclari per virtù civili, militari e religiose. Il fasto del censo si è tramandato sino a noi e rimangono ancora molti insigni monumenti in Siena ed altre città, palazzi baronali, antichi castelli, ville sontuose a testimonianza della grandezza e della liberalità di questa famiglia. Ma la città più ricca di monumenti borghesiani è Roma, ove fra tante rievocazioni, il Palazzo e la Villa Borghese, la Fontana dell'Acqua Paola sul Gianicolo e la Cappella Paolina o Borghesiana, ci attestano la potenza e la grandezza della stirpe. Le origini di questa risalgono al XIII sec. Da documenti d'archivio infatti, risulta che un Tiezzo o Teuzzo da Monticiano, vissuto a Siena nell'inizio del dugento, fu padre di quattro figli: Bonaventura, Bencivenne, Benincasa e Benvenuto; furono appunto Bencivenne
