Tra le più antiche, e nobili famiglie di Lucca si numera questa famiglia, la quale non solo per l'antichità, ma per ricchezza ancora à fatta la sua scena nel teatro della Republica Lucchese al pari di ogn'altra, avendo sempre posseduto Palazzi forti, e muniti di Torri, come per scritture autentiche, e publici istromenti, chiaramente apparisce, asserendo tutti gli Antiquarj, che i Portici, Torri, e Corti sono indizj manifesti di una vera, e suprema nobiltà; ed in questa famiglia appunto de' M., si vede per Ser Cecio Megliori del 1222. per rogito di Ser Gerardino Gerardini del 1268. per quegli di Ser Salliente Tadiccionis del 1298. e del 1299. per quegli di Ser Iacopo quondam hilatthei Turchi da Lucca, essere vere tutte le sopradette cose; Sì che dunque non si deve porre in dubbio, che questa famiglia non sia nobilissima, avendo ab antiquo posseduto tutte quelle condizioni, che fanno un'huomo,
