Família francesa antiga e muito nobre, com filiais na Suíça, Bretanha, Lorena, Normandia e Artois, de virtude clara e ancestral, que se espalhou ao longo dos séculos em várias regiões da Europa. O primeiro personagem de que temos notícias é o nobre Augustin, advogado de Quimper, que em 1529 se casou com Marie l'Honoré, de quem teve Jean, vereador do tribunal presidencial de Quimper, autor do ensaio "La Ligue en Bretagne", anteriormente morreu em 1600. Seus descendentes tinham o título de Senhores de Kercado, em Beuzec Cap Sizun, e de Kerdonnis, em Pontcroix. Outro ramo da família é chefiado por Guillaume, secretária real em 1699, que se casou com Guillemette Jocet, de quem: René, marido de Jeanne Baudran, criou cavaleiro em 1708 e pai de Pierre-Louis, agrimensor, membro da Academia de Ciências , da França e Berlim.
