Dice Francisco Piferrer que la ilustre casa de Morote, que en Cataluña se conoce por la casa de M. tuvo su asiento en los Pirineos catalanes, provincia de Lérida y obispado de Urgel, sobre una eminencia, en la vertiente del río Sicolis, que hoy se llama el río Segre. En el Archivio Real de Barcelona se conservan grandes memorias de los individuos de este linaje, y entre ellas, un privilegio del rey don Jaime I de Aragón, otorgado a Miguel M. para premiar su valor en la conquista de Valencia. Cuenta la tradición que una dama de este apellido llamada doña Juana M., esposa de Miguel Garcerán Dami, habiendo sabido que su hijo Pedro Dami M. se inclinaba al partido de Francia le quitó la vida. Al tiempo que daba de puñaladas a su hijo, le dijo éste: "Madre, no mates a tu mismo hijo", a la cual le respondió la madre: "No mato a mi hijo, mato a un traidor de mi rey".
