Among the nobles of Romagna the origins of this family are very ancient, they come from that Marius Scotus who in 773 AD descended in Italy alongside Charlemagne against the Lombards and giving rise to the surname Marescotti who were lords of Bagnacavallo in Romagna. The Marescotti several times, over the centuries, related to the Morsiani up to add their surname to the latter. The direct progenitor of the lineage, Morsiano Fortebraccio Morsiani, participated in the XIV century in the Crusade against the Forlivese and, together with the famous Romagna leader Alberico da Barbiano, he was opposed to the English mercenaries in the victorious battle of Marino in 1379 in defense of Pope Urban VI and against the establishment of the Antipope Clement VII.
