Nobile famiglia proveniente a Lucca da Roncola nel Bergamasco durante la seconda metà del sec. XVI, e che ottenne il privilegio di cittadinanza lucchese, il 22 maggio 1620, in Giovan Pietro, di Antonio. Coprì cariche di governo ed ebbe uomini illustri specialmente nelle scienze mediche quali Bernardo e Domenico nel secolo XVII, e Domenico Luigi, autore del trattato Dei Bagni di Lucca, edito dal Rocchi nel 1792. Figli di Domenico Luigi, defunto nel 1827 furono: Costanza, lodata poetessa, ch'ebbe in Arcadia il nome di Dorina Pencja e Bernardo Giuseppe, valente giurisperito, che coprì durante il Ducato Borbonico la magistratura di giudice della Corte Suprema, di Consigliere di Stato, e fu sotto il Granducato Toscano successivamente Prefetto di Pisa, di Siena e di Lucca. Il Duca di Lucca, Carlo Lodovico di Borbone, gli conferì la nobiltà personale, privilegio convertito in nobiltà di Lucca ereditaria dal Granduca Leopoldo II con diploma del
