Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del Regno delle Due Sicilie, di chiara ed avita virtù, conosciuta come Moscatelli o Moscato, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo. Nicola M. fu insignito del titolo di marchese di Castelvetere, in data 24 agosto 1693 da re Carlo II di Spagna. Il detto titolo venne poi riconosciuto dal Governo del Regno delle Due Sicilie sia il 28 ottobre 1834 che il 12 gennaio 1860. Con Regio Rescritto del 10 aprile 1858, la famiglia fu dichiarata “di nobiltà tale da poter essere dichiarata idonea a fondare un maggiorato”. D'altronde nel dispiegarsi dei lustri la famiglia si è sempre distinta per l'elevatezza dei personaggi a cui ha dato i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: cav. Antonio, che partecipò alla difesa del Regno delle Due Sicilie, minacciato da Ludovico di Baviera; Saverio, giureconsulto ed ambasciatore
