Con patenti del 10 dicembre 1622 la città di Fossano fu infeudata di due quinti di Genola col titolo comitale. In seguito a transazione col conte Giambattista Sclarandi Spada del 6 maggio 1695, la città fu infeudata il 6 giugno 1695 delle Maddalene, cioè dei suoi cantoni, che sono: Marazzo, Piovani, Mellea, Gerbo e S. Vito, escluse tre cascine infeudata al citato conte Sclarandi, tutto col titolo comitale. Con patenti ducali del 6 maggio 1566, in occasione che fu concesso a Fossano il titolo di città ebbe la facoltà di caricare lo stemma dello scudetto di Savoia, col motto: fidelitatis insignia. Il Comune è iscritto nell'Elenco Ufficiale Italiano col titolo di Conte di Genola e Maddalene. Motto della famiglia: Fidelitatis insignia e Sic in pectore firma. Altro ramo.
