En las afueras de la villa de Elgoibar, del solar judicial de Vergara (Guipúzcoa), se halla la casa solar de este apellido, de gran antigüedad. De ella procedió Juan López de M., que se halló en las batallas de Beotivar, Velate y Elizondo. Pasaron los M. a las villas de Eibar, del mismo partido judicial de Vergara, y a Tolosa, y a Albistur, en el partido de Tolosa. También en Navarra hay un palacio que se llama de M., Entroncaron con los Gil por el casamiento de Miguel Gil con doña Vicenta M. En la villa de Motrico (Vizcaya), moró una rama descendiente de la casa del Elgóibar y algunos de sus individuos aparecen apellidados M. A esa rama perteneció Pedro de M., casado con doña María Larrez de Ascorza, vecino de la villa de Motrico en Vizcaya, y padres de Mariana de M., que casó en la parroquia de Asunción, de la villa de Motrico, con Gabriel de Ossa, naciendo en esa villa en 1658.
