Ancient and very noble Sicilian house, among the main ones in the County of Cefalù and, more precisely, originally from Chiaramonte Guelfi, where it has been attested since the tenth fifth century, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. The origin of this cognomination, according to authoritative genealogists, should be sought in the Arabic word "mawlà" (= guide, teacher, superior, meritorious). The family was awarded the rustic fiefdoms of Suttafari, Balatazza and a part of Cannicarao, which, over time, were raised to Baronial dignity. The magnificent Giacomo was sworn in Chiaromonte in 1541. His nephew Liberante, in 1606, had the majestic family residence built which, in 1713, was restored and enlarged by another Giacomo.
