Dice Francisco Cascales que los de este apellido son notorios hijosdalgo en la ciudad de Murcia (cuyo nombre tomaron) y como tales tuvieron los oficios públicos, según consta en varios libros anales del archivo de la mencionada ciudad, principalmente en una ordenanza que hizo el Condestable Ruy López Dávalos, Corregidor de Murcia, donde insaculó los caballeros más nobles y principales para el gobierno de la ciudad. En dicha ordenanza figuran, Lorenzo Vidal de M., Mateo de M., y Alonso Martínez de M. En el libro de los caballeros hijosdalgo están declarados por tales, Joaquín Martínez de M., de la parroquia de San Antolín, y sus dos hijos Alfonso Martínez de M. y Ginés Martínez de M. Una rama de estos M., apellidada M. Riquelme, tuvo bandos, discusiones y discordias con los Soto, familia también muy poderosa de la misma ciudad, bandos que dieron lugar a varias muertes. De dicha
