Famille ancienne et très noble de l'Europe du Nord germanique, avec une implantation très importante en Suisse, de vertu claire et ancestrale, qui s'est répandue, au fil des siècles, dans le nord de l'Italie et, en particulier, dans la région de la Vénétie. La première personne que nous connaissons est un Hainrich Murer, chancelier de la cour de Veringen, qui s'épanouit en 1271. En Allemagne, la famille se distingue toujours par de hautes fonctions administratives et gouvernementales. En Suisse, la famille jouissait de la noblesse à Bâle et à Zurich et était également célèbre pour être le berceau d'excellents artistes, tels que: Josias, maître qui a créé, entre autres, le vitrail de la florissante guilde des forgerons et des charpentiers en 1605, et Enrico , célèbre miniaturiste, florissant en 1648. En Vénétie, la famille est présente au moins depuis le XVIIe siècle, avec des noyaux à Venise et à Belluno.
