Cette maison est reconnue par tous les généalogistes comme des plus anciennes et des plus illustres de la Bretagne. On trouve cette famille en Bretagne dans la seconde moitié du XVIème siècle où elle a produit des hommes illustres dans la chaire, les sciences et le barreau. On serait porté à confirmer cette affirmation quand on examine les armoiries de cette maison et les alliances nobles qu’elle a eu pendant plusieurs siècles. Au nom de cette famille on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l’on reproduit ci-dessous et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et heraldique, l’assurance d’une valeur historique de patrimoine, de noblesse et de valeur. Ces armes sont ainsi inscrites dans L’Armorial Général de France. Cette famille, établie en Bretagne en 1690, s'est alliée aux le Roy de la Trochardais, du Breil de la Caunelaye et Botherel et a produit un maréchal de camp en 1825.
