Noblesse chevaleresque dont les sires de Mercoeur avaient hérité avant 1260. Jean, est témoin d'une donation faite en 1159, à l'hôpital de St-Jean de la Chevalerie du Puy. Hugues fut présent en 1182 à l'accord intervenu entre Robert IV comte d'Auvergne et l'abbé de St-Michel de la Cluse en Piémont. On trouve plus tard, dans la bourgeoisie du Puy, une famille du même nom dont l'origine n'est pas exactement connue. Armand, vicomte de Polignac et Catherine de Bouzols, sa femme, pour reconnaître les soins médicaux de Jean Murs, lui donnent par acte du 22 septembre 1331, la co-seigneurie et le château de Mons près Le Puy. Ses descendants, noble Pierre et Jean père et fils, bourgeois du Puy, font une vente au chapitre de St-Vosy le 20 octobre 1401. Leur postérité est dite éteinte en 1488.
