L'arciduchessa Maria Duchessa di Parma, con diploma 28 Dic. 1821, creò cavalieri l'avvocato Giuseppe M. e i di lui discendenti maschi e concesse loro l'arma. Altro ramo. Famiglia originaria di Modena, creata nobile di Carpi per Rif. Carp. 2 aprile 1842, in persona dell'ingegnere Giuseppe e figli e discendenti da lui. Altra famiglia alzò per arma. Troncato; nel primo ritroncato a) di rosso alla stella (6) d'oro; b) d'azzurro a due stelle (6) d'oro; nel secondo d'argento ad una testa umana al naturale imbronciata (che fu il muso) di profilo a destra. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni, e de' maggiori.
