E' la gran famiglia aleramica, sovrana di Saluzzo e del marchesato. Ne diedero la genealogia il Litta e il barone Manuel di S. Giovanni per il ramo di Dogliani. Ne sono superstiti il ramo di Paesana e il ramo di Monterosso. Del ramo di Paesana è capostipite Azzone, figlio del marchese Tommaso II, morto novantenne intorno al 1425, detto il Buono, il Giusto. Signore di Monasterolo, di Catellar, di Crissolo, Oncino, Paesana per testamento paterno del 15 agosto 1358, fece omaggio per Castellar al conte di Savoia il 3 luglio 1363. Sposò Onofria Della Rovere di Vinovo e ne ebbe Giovanni (dec. 1445) da cui venne una larga e lunga discendenza, illustratasi nelle armi, nelle lettere, nella magistratura, nelle cariche di Corte. Degni di ricordo: Baldassare (1512-1562), scudiere di Enrico II, re di Francia; Gian Andrea (dec. 1529), scrittore del noto Charneto ossia Memoriale (1482-1528), pubblicato da Vincenzo Promis; Giangiacomo
