Questa famiglia dalla Toscana passò in Roma, ed è dal Panuino posta fra le famiglie Consolari Romane; ma sotto l'Imperio Toscano fu potentissima, il cui progenitero fu quel Annio Re della Toscana, della qual morte ne parla Plutarco, che seguì dentro l'acque del fiume Peruseo, che di poi in memoria di questo Eroe toscano fu chiamato Annieno; e perche secondo il suo solito Plutarco volendo, dire Aretini, scrive toscani, facendo la dinominazione a nobiliori parte, non resta chiaro di qual nazione questo Rege fosse; ma una lapide, che sta posta alla vista di tutti nella facciata di S. Florido della città di Castello, cava d'ogni dubbio, additando la Patria di questa Regia famiglia. Otre di questa iscrizione, si conservano ancora nel contado d'Arezzo in memoria della fiamiglia Nannia tre fertilissimi luoghi da questa posseduti, l'uno chiamato Monte Annaiano, l'altro la Terra Anniana, e il terzo la Badia Anniana.
