Antichissima famiglia, originaria di Asciano, da dove passò in Siena, nel corso XVI secolo. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di illustri genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel nomen latino "Nanninus", appartenuto ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite, il quale, secondo alcuni, potrebbe rinvenirsi in un antenato di quel Remigium Nanini "de Florentia magistrum", vivente nel 1500. In Siena, in ogni modo, la famiglia, che aveva il sepolcro nella chiesa di S. Spirito, fu aggregata al Monte dei Riformatori ed il primo che occupò cariche pubbliche fu un Lattanzio, di Francesco, nel 1690. Tra i personaggi che, maggiormente, illustrarono tal illustre casato, inoltre, non possiamo certo tacere quel Giovan Paolo, di Francesco, il quale fu rettore dell'ospedale di S. Miniato ed i cui suoi discendenti si distinsero nei pubblici uffici. I membri della famiglia Nannini furono ascritti alla Nobiltà di Siena, per decreto del 27 agosto 1753. La famiglia è iscritta nel Libro
