Antica ed illustre famiglia, originaria di San Miniato, passata in Pistoia, i cui membri sono ritenuti conserti dei Cavalcanti e dei Cancellieri. Cantino, di Amadore Cavalcanti, per opera dei Cerchi, fu eletto capitano di Pistoia nel 1300; Cancellieri da Cantino ebbe molta parte nelle fazioni dei Bianchi e dei Neri; Domenico, nel 1490, lasciato il cognome dei maggiori, prese per sè e suoi discendenti quello di Nantini e, con 200 soldati pistoiesi si portò in aiuto di Giovanni Bentivoglio che voleva rivendicare la signoria di Bologna. Nel 1519, inoltre, Giovanni, di Domenico, ricoprì la carica di Priore ed il di lui fratello Jacopo quella di Gonfaloniere. Nel 1590, i membri di tal casato passarono in Fucecchio, e, un secolo più tardi, a Portoferraio, nell'Elba, sempre conservando rango distinto e cospicuo patrimonio.
