Nel secolo XVIII questa illustre ed antica famiglia, diede a Reggio molti e distinti giureconsulti, e specialmente notai. Giacomo Nantovani, fu notaio collegiato di Reggio dal 1719 al 1768, e così lo furono i suoi due figli, Giovan Battista, dal 1739 al 1783, e Luigi, dal 1752 al 1803. Altri notai furono: Giuseppe, che esercitò dal 1765 al 1806; Pietro, che rogò dal 1784 al 1797, e Francesco, dal 1796 al 1807. Don Pietro, sacerdote, fu nominato cittadino nobile di Reggio con chirografo del Duca di Modena Francesco III, dato a Milano il 20 dicembre 1770, riportato "nel libro grosso rosso" del Municipio di Reggio Emilia. In esso è ricordato che la famiglia era stabilita da due secoli a Reggio.
