Antichissima ed assai nobile famiglia che vede la propria culla in Forlì, ove già nel XIII secolo era ascritta tra le nobili, con diramazioni in Urbino, San Leo, Sant'Angelo in Vado, San Marino, Perugia, Roma, Viterbo, Varese, Matelica, Ancona, Spoleto, Torino. Riconosce suo capostipite Nardino, vivente sulla fine del secolo XIII, signore di Poggio Berni in Romagna e della Rocchetta in quel di Fabriano nelle Marche. Roberto d'Angiò, re di Napoli, che lo apprezzò mentre era Vicario di Clemente V nelle Romagne, lo volle suo vicerè a Napoli, ove la famiglia Nardini ebbe stanza fino a che egli visse e cioè dal 1310 al 1317 circa; poi ritornò a Forlì. Carlo, fu prima monaco dell'Ordine Cistercense e Abbate di S. Celso in Milano e ne divenne poscia Arcivescovo; ivi morì nel 1461. Stefano, figlio di Nardino juniore e di Giulia dall' Aste nobile Forlivese, nella sua gioventù si diede all'arte
