Antica ed assai nobile casata spagnola, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa, con importanti insediamenti nel Meridione d'Italia. Leggenda vuole che essa abbia però avuto origine in Irlanda da donde poi si sarebbe portata in Malta ed infine avrebbe trovato dimora in Spagna, primieramente nella città di Valencia, prima di diffondersi come detto anche nel Regno di Napoli. In ogni modo, la chiara nobiltà della famiglia Nardo è testimoniata dalla sua presenza in alcune delle più pregevoli opere d'araldica europee, tra cui "El solar catalan, valenciano y balear" degli storici e genealogisti Alberto e Arturo Garcia Carraffa. In Valencia si ha chiara memoria di un Benito, saggista ed artista, del fu Leonardo, fiorente sul calare del XVIII secolo. Altri rami di questo casato hanno poi provato la propria nobiltà negli ordini militari di Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Montesa, Carlos III e San Juan
