Da un'antica bibliografia stampata in Firenze dalla tipografia delle Murate nell'anno 1866, intitolato "Libro dei nobili veneti, ora per la prima volta messo in luce", come rilevasi dall'opera summenzionata la famiglia è originaria del Veneto. Originaria della Venezia, fu trapiantata in Sicilia da un Nicolò venuto al servigio del Re Alfonso. Molte le famiglie che appartennero alla nobiltà veneta, molte di queste erano di Verona anche se non tutte di esse erano scritte al già Nobile Consiglio di Verona così come ci riporta il Cartolari nelle sue "Cenni sopra varie famiglie illustri di Verona e Famiglie già ascritte al Nobile Consiglio di Verona", stampati in Verona nel 1885 in 8°, dal Vicentini e Franchini. Un'antichissima versione sulla origine di questa famiglia dice: Vennero de altre terre, grandissimi homeni solito de facende, et erano zojelieri, et altre sorte de mercantie, et hano fatto de belli stabeli, sopra la fondamenta della medesima

Inquartato: nel primo partito: a) di azzurro a tre cipressi al naturale disposti 2 e 1; b) di nero al leone al naturale, rampante, accompagnato da 8 rosette d'argento, bottonate di oro e disposte: 3 in capo, 3 in punta e 2 ai lati; nel secondo d'oro all'aquila coronata di nero, col volo spiegato; nel terzo partito: a) d'argento alla spada al naturale, la punta verso il capo e attraversata in alto da un crescente montante d'argento; l'elsa sostenente due leoncini al naturale controrampanti alla spada; b) d'argento al leone al naturale, rampante, accompagnato da tre moscature di ermellino disposte due ai cantoni superiori dello scudo ed una in punta; nel quarto d'azzurro a due branche di orso, d'oro, recise e passate in croce di Sant'Andrea e accompagnate in capo da tre aquilotti d'oro, posti in fascia.
