Ursprünglich aus der Provinz Como stammend, von wo aus es 1400 in Varese Ligure verpflanzt wurde, wurde es in der ersten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts von einem Hieronymus, der bald eine große Autorität erlangte und Finanzminister von Herzog Ferdinando von Bourbon war, in das Herzogtum Parma gebracht zu Ehren seiner Dienste gewährte er ihm mit dem Privileg vom 6.
