Nobile ed assai antica famiglia, i cui prime vestigi si rinvengono in Asti nel XI secolo, in cui fiorì un Tommaso che unito a S. Landolfo vescovo di Asti, nel 1099 soccorse generosamente la città che era afflitta da grave morbo contagioso, e si adoperò per modo che gli autori ed infestatori della peste fossero severamente castigati. Un Oberto Natta fu sindaco di quel Comune nel 1190; Guglielmo signore del castello di Ronco e padre di Giorgio che nel 1339 venne eletto consigliere di Asti; Obertino, celeberrimo giureconsulto, ebbe dal marchese Teodoro di Monferrato una procura per far permuta di terre e per comporre alcune differenze col Conte Amedeo di Savoia; Secondino, figlio del precedente, fu vicario generale dello stato del Monferrato, e come ambasciatore trattò e compose il matrimonio tra Giovanni di Lusignano re di Gerusalemme e di Cipro con Amedea figlia di Giovan-Giacomo marchese di Monferrato, ed ebbe
