Família espanhola, onde o apelido se escreve Navaz. É incerto que tenha passado a Portugal, apesar de as usas armas haverem sido concedidas, com outras, por Carta de sucessão, a Bernardino José do Amaral Sousa e N. Figueiredo do lugar da Mizarela, no termo de Linhares, província da Beria, a 22 de Abril de 1784, conforme diz o Visconde de Sances de Baena, nos eu Arquivo Heráldico-Genealógico, porque este pertencia a uma família da vila de Linhares, que se apelidava da Nave, nome taez tomado de alguma das freguesias da mesma província assim chamadas, como Nave do Sabugal e Nave de Haver, ou de qualquer Nave dos concelhos de Penamacor, Pinhel, Guarda, Idanha-a-Nova, Almeida, Covilhã, Figueria de Castelo Rodrigo e Fundão. É possível que houvesse em Portugal uma família N., oriunda de Espanha e que por tal motivo, o rei de armas que passou a mencionada Carta, não encontrando armas
