Antica ed assai nobile famiglia, la cui culla fu la città di Arco (Trento), ove risiede ancora un ramo cadetto, ma il cui ramo primogenito è quello abitante in Bologna. Altri rami risiedono ad Avesa(Verona) e a Pisa. Al secolo XII, si fa risalire l'origine della nobiltà di questa famiglia. Essa, infatti, fu investita dal Principe Vescovo di Trento, poiché, come risulta dall'opera di Dionisio Ramanzini, pubblicata in Verona verso il 1760, sotto il titolo: "Dell'Ospitale dei Battuti d'Arco. Notizie storiche dedicate agli amatori dell'Umanità", alle pagine 76 e 77, si legge: "Nell'Archivio segreto del Castello di Trento Caps. 62 num. 16 e num. 81 conservansi due carte antiche date in Arco; la prima nell'anno 1253 contiene un'investitura fatta a Domenico qm. Giovanni del diritto goduto dai suoi maggiori di portare le ambasciate del Vescovo di Trento per totum Plebatium Arci et Ripe, ove, col vantaggio della decima parte
