Diese Familie scheint aus Portovenere zu stammen: Ein Manfredo hätte zuerst den Nachnamen verwendet. Er hatte zwei Söhne, William und James, von denen alle anderen abstammen. Der Sender (Nuove Istorie della Reppubblica di Genova, Bd. I) bezweifelt diesen Ursprung und zitiert einen Guido, ein Testament in einer Spende (1080), Guglielmo und Baldissone, die den Erzbischof (1119) und Zehntel (1146), Alberto, bezahlen und Giovanni, Feudalherren im Pakt der Lehen; Ansaldo und Giovanni zählten zu den Viscounts in der Maut von Gavi (1236); er argumentiert, dass die Di Negro zusammen mit den Embriaci Zweige viscontischen Ursprungs sind, von denen verschiedene Personen im dreizehnten Jahrhundert den Nachnamen Negro hinzufügten. In Genua gründete die Familie Di Negro ein Hotel, das mit der Reform von 1528 weiter bestand.
