Antigua e ilustre familia alemana, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido por todo el mundo a lo largo de los siglos. Según lo que se ha transmitido, esta familia es originaria de Greiffenberg, hoy ciudad polaca pero que alguna vez formó parte de Alemania. Las primeras referencias a este apellido se remontan al siglo XV, con un Hänslin Nerger, floreciente en Silesia en 1474. De origen burgués, esta familia alcanzó el estatus de notable gracias al jurista alemán Joachim Nerger (Greiffenberg, hacia 1626 - Wittenberg , 28 de febrero de 1682). Después de completar sus estudios, en 1650 recibió el cargo de protonotario en la corte de Wittenberg y de abogado en el consistorio de Wittenberg.
