Ascritti all'arte dei rigattieri, nel 1382 cominciarono a conseguire il priorato che ottennero 27 volte. Bernardo di Nero di Filippo fu uno dei venti deputati a reprimere la ribellione dei Volterrani nel 1472, e ambasciatore a Pisa nel 1482, e l'anno appresso commissario generale di guerra in Lunigiana.
