Quasi tutti gli Scrittori lucchesi hanno affermato, che molte famiglie nobili Lucchesi si ritirassero da Lucca a S.Miniato, e nella Valle di Pesa, nel qual Territorio acquistassero tenute di terreno non mediocri; e però non senza ragione il Senatore Carlo Strozzi, Antiquario tra' famosi del suo secolo, tiene, che la famiglia Guicciardina derivasse da Lucca. Anticamente questa famiglia si chiamava de'Sirigatti, e poco dopo d' Niccolini da un Niccolino, come si mostrerà appresso. In tre maniere puol'essere sata chiamata de'Sirigatti. Prima nell'Assioma comune appresso tutti gli Antiquari, che quasi tutte le famiglie si denominarono da un nome proprio di quel Cavaliere più conspicuo della famiglia, e dal nome più speffeggiato in detta. Nel pedale dunque di questa famiglia non vedo altro personaggio, che sia più nominato, il più antico, ed il più speffeggiato, che Errigo, il cui diminutivo fu Errigatto, o Rigone, o Errighetto, che in tutte tre le manier
