Nachname kastilischen Ursprungs. Sie stammt aus den Bergen von León, von wo aus sie sich auf der gesamten Halbinsel ausbreitete. Ritter dieser Linie bewiesen ihren Adel in den Orden von Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Carlos III und San Juan de Jerusalén; in der königlichen Kanzlei von Valladolid und im königlichen Hof von Oviedo.
