Nom de famille d'origine castillane. Il provient des montagnes de León, d'où il s'est répandu dans toute la péninsule. Les chevaliers de cette lignée ont prouvé leur noblesse dans les ordres de Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Carlos III et San Juan de Jerusalén ; à la Chancellerie Royale de Valladolid et à la Cour Royale d'Oviedo. Don Juan N. Demonte a été créé marquis de Monsalud en 1762; Don Ignacio N. y Roa, comte d'Alastaya en 1769 et Don Matías N. Serrano, marquis de Guadalerzas en 1893.
