Originaria di Nirano nella provincia di Modena, ammessa alla nobiltà modenese, ferrarese e romana. Antonio dottore, in diritto, fu chiamato a Ferrara da Alfonso II come consultore di camera e gli conferì, insieme a' suoi nepoti, Bartolomeo ed Orazio i titoli di conte e di cavaliere. Dal suddetto Antonio discende la linea dei conti e marchesi Nigrelli di Ferrara, poichè il di lui figlio Giulio-Cesare fu investito nel 1631 da Vittorio Duca di Savoia della contea di Venaria, mutata in marchesato l'8 feb. 1667. Egli fu giudice dei Savi, ambasciatore ordinario della città presso il Pontefice, e senatore di Roma. Ottavio, capitano in Germania, nel 1662 passò al servizio del Papa; suo figlio Antonio fu cameriere segreto e coppiere di Alfondo IV Duca di Modena; Bartolomeo dott. in leggi, fu a capo del comune di Sassuolo nel 1599, dopo essere stato podestà ducale di Carpi nel 1583.
