Famiglia originata dai conti di Collimento, ramo dei conti di Marsi, la quale prese stanza, nel secolo XIII, nella sorgente città di Aquila, in persona di Pietro reduce della sesta Crociata, promossa dall'imperatore Federico II. Nella menzionata città di Aquila fu tra le prime a riscuotere gli onori del patriziato. Di poi nel 1562 fu ascritta al patriziato romano e, nel secolo XVII, a quello di Urbino, per un ramo ivi trapiantatosi. Ebbe il possesso di molti feudi dal tempo degli Svevi sino alla completa abolizione della feudalità, fra i quali rammenteremo Tione, Civitatomassa, Scoppito, Coppito, Vittorito. È stata ricevuta nell'Ordine di Malta nel 1566, come pure negli Ordini di San Lazzaro e di S. Stefano di Toscana, correndo ancora il secolo XVI. Ebbe il titolo di marchese da Papa Pio VII ed il titolo di duca da Papa Pio IX . In fine con decreto ministeriale del 25 Maggio
