Anticamente detta Sozzini, è originaria del castello di Percenna presso Buonconvento, si traserì in Siena sul cominciare del XIV secolo, ed il primo a sedere nel supremo magistrato di quella Repubblica fu Benedetto di ser Mino di Sozzo nel 1559. In detto anno un Giovanni fu tra gli ambasciatori che la repubblica Senese mandava a Cortona per comporre alcune differenze sussistenti in seno alla famiglia Casali e l'anno susseguente fra gli' inviati ai Fiorentini per frenare le scorrerie che il conte Landi faceva a loro danno e per stringer lega coi Perugini, e due anni dopo sottoscrivere un trattato di pace coi Pisani. Nicolò dottissimo nelle leggi canoniche e civili, autore di pregiatissime opere in dette facoltà; Mariano, suo figlio, sommo legista anch'esso, fu lettore di giurisprudenza nello Studio di Pisa e quindi in quelli di Padova e di Bologna; un altro Mariano, nipote ex frate del precenente, lesse giurisprudenza
