Famiglia nota in Calabria dal XIII secolo e feudataria dall'anno 1391. Antica nella nobiltà della città di Taverna, possedette i feudi di Rocca e Poerio, Belcastro, Cardito e Ferolito. Passata nel S.M.O. di Malta, in Priorato nel 1588, per ricezione del cavaliere Orazio, e, nel 1719, in persona dei cavalieri Giuseppe e Carlo, per prova fattane da Cesare, signore di Rocca e Poerio, nel 1447, e passata, ancora, in Priorato nel 1741 quarto materno del cavaliere Gerolamo de Nobili. Appartennero a questa famiglia gli insigni patrioti Alessandro, chiarissimo letterato e poeta, morto combattendo a Mestre e Carlo, ministro del re Ferdinando II nel periodo costituzionale, in seguito perseguitato politico, morto senatore del regno d'Italia. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia originaria di Sicilia.
