Questa famiglia, ha per stipite in Genova, ove emigrò probabilmente dalla Lombardia, Vassallo da Lumello, console nel 1197-98; salì a grande potenza politica fin dai primi tempi del Comune; nel 1528 formò albergo. Il commercio, la diplomazia e la beneficenza furono i campi ove emerse in modo particolare. Nel 1378 Leonello costituì una Maona per il recupero e lo sfruttamento della Corsia, combattè contro il conte Arrigo della Rocca nel 1380 e pose le basi della città di Bastia. Non avendo la Repubblica potuto rimborsargli le spese sostenute, ottenne dal governatore Bucicaldo, nel 1405, l'isola in feudo col titolo di conte, ed il figlio Andrea ne divenne governatore più volte. La principale risorsa di alcuni rami fu la pesca del corallo ch'essi esercitarono per tre secoli. Nel 1494 Nicolò aveva già in affitto insieme ad altri la pesca a Marsacares, indi a Tabarca e sulle coste di Barberia. Nel sec.
