Famille remontant à Catherin, écuyer, fils de Pierre secrétaire en 1473 de Charles, duc de Bourgogné, marié à Jeanne de la Plume. Elle a justifié de sa noblesse pour une admission en 1662, aux États généraux de la Franche-Comté. Représentée en 1789 par Joseph - Gabriel - Désiré, écuyer, émigré à l'armée de Condé, capitaine de cavalerie, chevalier de St-Louis, mar. à Françoise de la Rodde, chanoinesse-comtesse du noble chapitre de Neuville, fille de Louis, comte de la Rodde-Séneujols et de Rose de la Garde-Chambonnas. Philibert-Gustave leur fils, né en 18O4, épousa Marguerite Clairambault de Vindeuil. L'aîné de leurs enfants, Louis-Paul, fut adopté par son grand oncle Hector, comte de la Rodde, dernier mâle de cette antique maison du Velay, à la condition qu'il prendrait les nom, titres et armes de la Rodde, adoption reconnue par un jugement du tribunal.
