Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Rolland, croisé en 1248 et 1270 (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois); Philippe, épouse vers 1322 Tiphaine du Boisriou, de la paroisse de Ruca; Etienne, archer dans une montre de 1351, marié à Anastase la Vache, de la maison de la Touche; huit chevaliers de l'ordre du Roi depuis 1538; deux chefs d'escadre et deux lieutenants-généraux des armées navals depuis 1694; un page du Roi en 1691; un page de la Reine en 1740; plusieurs chevaliers de Malte depuis 1720; un abbé de Redon en 1747; évêque de Rennes en 1761 transféré à Verdun en 1770; deux conseillers au Parlement en 1690 et 1715; un maréchal de camp en 1788. La branche aînée éteinte en 1753 dans les ducs de Beauvillier-Saint-Aignan; la branche de la Hautière fondue dans Forestier de la Mettrie; la branche de Pannard, établie dans le Maine en 1568; existe seule aujourd'hui.
