De la investigación realizada en el Archivo General de la Compañía de Indias en Sevilla, extraemos la siguiente información: Bernardo Alonso y Alonso N., naturales de Medina Sidonia, solteros, hijos de Francisco Marín y de Catalina Jiménez, fue nombrado Sargento del Ejército por decreto de la Real Compañía de Indias en octubre de 1577 y embarcó hacia Nueva España el 9 mayo 1578; en otro legajo del mismo archivo figura que dimitió del cargo a los tres años de ocuparlo, compró una hacienda y acumuló gran fortuna, murió a los 69 años víctima de unas extrañas fiebres, legó sus propiedades a los domínicos y repartió el dinero a sus nueve hijos reconocidos, por lo que suponemos que fué uno de los iniciadores de esta saga familia en América.
