Antichissimo casato toscano, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, con residenza in Firenze, ove fu dei Gonfaloni Santa Maria Novella e Lion rosso, Volterra, Pescia Fabriano, Fano e Gubbio. Ovunque si distinse per le gesta dei suoi uomini preclari per le virtù civili, militari e religiose: Dino tenne il priorato di Volterra nel 1370; Girolamo, della linea di Gubbio, fu governatore di Imola, Giudice Rotale di Firenze, Commissario Pontificio in Ancona, Prelato della Curia Romana ed Ambasciatore per Francesco Maria della Rovere a Vienna e Venezia. La Casata fu, inoltre, ascritta alla nobiltà di Gubbio e di Pescia nonché al Patriziato di Roma. In Pescia, Nuccio, di Bartolomeo, di Giovanni, di Bartolomeo, fondò, nel 1638, una commenda di suo patronato nell'Ordine di S. Stefano e ne vestì l'abito. Successivamente vi furono ammessi anche i figli, ovvero Bartolomeo e Antonio, ed il figlio di quest'ultimo, Orazio. Pierfrancesco fu Rettore Magnifico nel 1597.
