La famiglia come i Velluti, i Pitti e di Barberini, si dissero scesi a Firenze da Semifonte quando, nel 1202, l'antico castello fu raso al suolo dai fiorentini. Ma secondo le note del Passerini alla Marietta de'Ricci, questa famiglia sarebbe venuta a mancare nel secolo XIV, e non avrebbe alcuna comunanza con gli attuali che proverrebbero da San Martino a Gangalandi e solo nella seconda metà del cinquecento avrebbero ottenuto in Firenze l'ammissione alle cariche. Di questa famiglia si ricordano: Antonio, di Giovanni, che nel 1582 fondò una Commenda nell'Ordine di Santo Stefano, del quale vestì le divise di cavaliere; Giovanni, di Antonio, n. nel 1577 buon compositore di musica; Pierfrancesco, di Domenico , maggiordomo di don Ferrante Gonzaga e dei principi don Giovanni e don Antonio de' Medici, e governatore ed aio di S. Luigi Gonzaga. Con testamento 29 marzo 1709 Francesco, di Stefano R., lasciò eredi delle sostanze,
