Alte und sehr edle Familie der Grafschaft Modica, von klarer und überlieferter Tugend, die sich über die Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Italiens verbreitet hat. Laut maßgeblichen Ahnenforschern sollte der Ursprung dieser Erkenntnis in einem Spitznamen gesucht werden, der Personen normannischer Herkunft gegeben wurde, die in Sizilien lebten und die einzigen mit blauen oder grünen Augen und daher "pinti" waren. Auf jeden Fall Giuseppe Occhipinti hatte den Titel eines Barons von Coral auf dem Landgut der Allodialgebiete von Corallo und Salamaro nahe der Westgrenze der Grafschaft Modica mit dem vizeköniglichen Privileg vom 3. Oktober 1759. Isidoro Criscione Occhipinti wurde im Titel eines Barons von Coral mit königlichem Dekret von anerkannt 21. Juli 1872. Der Baronialzweig der Familie, der ursprünglich aus Chiaramonte Gulfi stammte und dann nach Comiso zog, hat als Vorfahren einen Antonio, einen Notar, der um 1540 florierte und dessen Nachkommen sich in der Praxis von Anwälten und Notaren auszeichneten.
