La famiglia d'origine iberica stabilitasi in Lombardia durante la dominazione spagnola (1535-1698) offre un quadro interessante, avventuroso, drammatico della sua ascendenza. Alfonso de Ojeda od Hojeda nato a Cuenca nella Nuova Castiglia tra il 1466 e 1470 da distinta famiglia era paggio presso il duca di Medina Celi in casa del quale conobbe Cristoforo Colombo; da questi ottenne di accompagnarlo nel suo secondo viaggio assumendo il comando di una caravella e segnalandosi in una difficile esplorazione nell'interno dell'isola di S. Domingo. A sua volta armò una piccola squadra che salpò da Cadice il 18 maggio 1498 avendo con sé Amerigo Vespucci. Seguirono altre spedizioni l'ultima delle quali, per errori e tradimenti, lo condusse, dopo aver approdato a Cuba donde fuggì, ad Haiti ove fu processato; assolto, ma abbandonato da tuti, morì in povertà a S. Domingo tra il 1515 ed il 1516. Insigne domenicano, nato a Siviglia tra il 1570
