Familia italiana oriunda de la ciudad de Génova. Pasó a España en el primer tercio del siglo XVII y luego a Cuba. En esta isla radicó en la villa de San Salvador de Bayamo. Juan Domingo O. y su mujer doña Ana María Oitún, naturales de Génova, vinieron a Cádiz, quedando establecidos en esta ciudad. Tuvieron este hijo Santiago O. Oitún, que nació en Cádiz. Pasó a Cuba y allí fué Capitán de Milicias y Alcalde ordinario de la villa de Bayamo. Casó dos veces: la primera, con doña Francisca Orellana-Puebla Cabeza de Vaca, y la segunda, en la parroquia de Bayamo, el 12 de Junio de 1676, con doña Juana Núñez de Cabrera (hija de Juan Núñez de Cabrera, natural de la Habana, y de doña Ana Zayas-Bazán y Sánchez de Lagos-Mexia). Del segundo matrimonio nacieron: Jerónima O. y Núñez de Cabrera; Ana O. y Núñez de Cabrera, casada
